FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Town of Clarenville Congratulates ABO Wind

The Town of Clarenville extends congratulations to ABO Wind on being awarded the exclusive right to pursue development of its wind and green hydrogen project through the Crown Land Call for Bids for Wind Energy Projects. The Crown lands for the proposed project are located in relative proximity to Braya Renewable Fuels’ Come by Chance refinery, including areas around the Avalon Isthmus, that were included as part of the Crown land nomination areas for wind development.

During the bidding process, the Town met with representatives of ABO Wind to learn about the Toqlukuti’k project and to provide feedback on behalf of the town and residents. Council continues to express its interest in learning more about its partnership with the Miawpukek First Nation as well as neighbouring communities in the promotion of new economic opportunities for the town and the greater Clarenville area. These interests will include learning about local benefits for the community including employment opportunities for residents and procurement opportunities for local businesses.

“ABO Wind’s Green Hydrogen facility in nearby Come By Chance will enhance economic sustainability and diversification which can have positive impacts on the greater Clarenville Area”, says John Pickett, Mayor for the Town of Clarenville. Further, “As we develop a Strategic Economic Plan for the community, we see ABO Wind as a strong economic partner in promoting Clarenville’s REAL LIFE POTENTIAL”.

The Town hired an Economic Development Officer in December, 2022 with a focus to find new ways to promote economic development and business sustainability and growth in the community.
