Public Notice: Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing

July 18, 2024

What are we doing?
The Town of Clarenville will be engaging a Contractor (BioMaxx Environmental Ltd.) to carry out smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system. The intention of this study is to identify sewer infrastructure leaks and cross-connections. BioMaxx will systematically go up and down the streets in the community pumping a special harmless, non-damaging smoke throughout the sewer system, finding and making note of every cross connection and abnormality along the way. Smoke should not enter any houses unless there is a cross-connection. If this does occur, the smoke
should dissipate within 30 seconds once a window or door is opened.

Residents are advised that the smoke / vapour is not harmful. Attached is a link to a short video of some of the things we can find, and what the smoke will look like.
