The Town of Clarenville is presently accepting applications for one (1) full-time, permanent position of WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR to be located at Town’s Water Treatment Facility located at 140 Huntley Drive. The contract term is 6 months with the possibility of an extension.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will report directly to the Water Treatment Plant Working Foreperson and will become fully familiar with the Town of Clarenville’s water treatment facilities, maintenance activities, and water distribution system operations. The primary responsibility of the Water Treatment Plant Operator is to monitor, operate, and maintain the mechanical, chemical, and analytical systems associated with the Town’s municipal water treatment facility and distribution buildings. The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and effective treatment and conveyance of potable water from the treatment facility to the Town’s distribution system. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete ongoing safety training and educational programs, including obtaining Water Treatment Certification (Level I) from the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador within 24 months of hire. Due to the operational requirements of the position, the successful applicant must be available to work shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Given the emergency response nature of the role, the successful candidate must also reside within reasonable proximity to the Water Treatment Plant to ensure prompt response when required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications for this position are as follows:
• Successful completion of High School or equivalent is required;
• A valid Class 05 license for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (abstract required);
• Knowledge of and work-related experience with construction safety regulations is required;
• General knowledge of water management systems, Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines and/or post-secondary education in a related field would be an asset.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in municipal role is considered an asset, specifically in the water treatment plant maintenance and operation;
• Previous experience in water and sewer maintenance is considered an asset; and
• Must be able to perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
