Clarenville Continues to Seek Provincial Support to Advance Housing Projects
Clarenville, NL – [March 6, 2026] – The Town of Clarenville is continuing its efforts to support new housing development in response to the growing needs highlighted in the 2024 Housing Needs Assessment. The study shows that Clarenville is experiencing increasing pressure across the housing spectrum, particularly for seniors, renters, young families, and those seeking affordable options. The housing needs assessment concluded that Clarenville will require 830 new housing units by 2038, including 380 units of non‑market and affordable housing, to meet current and future demand.
The Town is pleased to have secured Federal housing funding to help address essential water, wastewater, and transportation infrastructure upgrades required before new housing construction can begin. These upgrades are key to unlocking two major developments representing more than 400 new homes, including affordable and long term rental units.
To move forward, the Town has requested funding support from the Provincial Government. These housing projects can not move forward without the support of the province. We have the financial commitment of the Federal Government & Town Council. We are ready to proceed and are awaiting the Provincial Government’s approval to advance these housing projects
A Collaborative Approach
“We are very appreciative of the Federal Government support already secured, and we value our ongoing discussions with the Province Government. With the Provincial Government funding approval, we can begin taking meaningful steps to meet Clarenville’s housing needs.
Council & I are very pleased with the announcement of the Bay du Nord project, this project will bring significant economic benefits to the Province and the Clarenville area. A major project of this magnitude will place even greater demand for new housing in Clarenville. We look forward to meeting with the provincial government to discuss.
Council remains committed to working with all partners to support safe, suitable, and accessible housing for all residents.
Mayor Pickett”
