Summer Programs and Special Events Cancelled Due to COVID-19!
The Town of Clarenville and the Clarenville Area Recreation Association take great pride in offering quality recreation programs and special events year-round for the residents of Clarenville and Area. These activities take a substantial amount of planning to execute safely for others to enjoy. It comes with great sadness that due to the ongoing uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, the following summer activities have been CANCELLED:
CARA Summer Program:
Despite the latest Alert Level System released by our government officials, the Clarenville Area Recreation Association, and the Town of Clarenville collectively feel that it is an unnecessary risk to bring children together into a group setting this summer. While we understand there maybe other communities that will proceed with their summer camps and programs, we simply will not put our children or staff at risk of getting sick. The health and safety of our children and staff is our top priority.
Canada Day Celebrations:
Social Gatherings will be restricted on July 1st forcing the Town to cancel our annual Canada Day celebrations. Keep an eye out for a virtual project asking residents to help celebrate Canada Day from the safety of your “Bubble”!
Clarenville Days Celebrations:
Like Canada Day, social gatherings will be restricted for most of the summer months making it unacceptable to celebrate our Town Civic Holiday on July 15th. Please note that the Civic Holiday has been moved to August 3rd, 2020 for this year only, to coincide with the National Civic Holiday. The same rules with regards to shops closing will apply to the August 3rd civic holiday as would have been applied to our normal July 15th holiday.
We understand that these cancelled events will be disappointing to many. Please know that these decisions were not taken lightly. The Recreation Committee and Town Council held lengthy discussions surrounding each activity. We share your disappointment and we Thank-you for your cooperation on this difficult, but necessary decision!
Remember…Please continue to practice physical distancing at all times. Wash your hands and TOGETHER we will get through this! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Town Hall at 466-7937.
